FIELD: petrochemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for producing N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone, which is widely used in the oil refining, petrochemical, polymer and paint industries, as well as in the production of pesticides and pigments. The proposed method for producing N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone is carried out in the liquid phase by the interaction of gamma-butyrolactone with methylamine in the presence of a zeolite catalyst at elevated temperature and pressure, followed by isolation of the target product by distillation. The process is carried out at a temperature of 240-270°C and a pressure of 5-10 atm on a zeolite catalyst faujasite structure comprising 1-3 wt.% zirconium.
EFFECT: producing N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone with a high yield, selectivity and conversion of gamma-butyrolactone while extending the time of active operation of the catalyst.
