FIELD: medicine, therapy and psychiatry.

SUBSTANCE: group of inventions is intended for the prevention or treatment of depression. A pharmaceutical composition for the prevention or treatment of depression contains cycloserine or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof and lithium or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof at a weight ratio of 10: 5 to 10: 1. Also the following is provided: a combination, an adjuvant pharmaceutical composition of lithium and a food composition containing (i) cycloserine or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof; and (ii) lithium or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof. Besides, there a method of preventing or treating depression is provided, the said method is administering to a patient a therapeutically effective amount of (i) cycloserine or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof; and (ii) lithium or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof; where the mass ratio of (i) and (ii) is from 10: 5 to 10: 1. In another embodiment, the use of a combination of (i) cycloserine or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof is disclosed; and (ii) lithium or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof for the preparation of a medicinal product for the prevention or treatment of depression.

EFFECT: use of the group of inventions provides an unexpectedly excellent effect in relation to the prevention or treatment of depression compared with the administration of each of these substances separately, which allows them to be effectively used as antidepressants in combination therapy.
