FIELD: biotechnology and medicine.

SUBSTANCE: following is proposed: a weakened strain of human metapneumovirus originating from strain rC-85473, containing genetic modifications of the sequence SEQ ID NO. 1, weakening the virulence of the specified strain. The modifications consist of inactivating the gene encoding the SH protein, inactivating the gene encoding the G protein, or inactivating the two genes encoding the G protein and the SH protein. In vitro use of the said attenuated human metapneumovirus strain as an expression vector of at least one exogenous gene in human metapneumovirus target cells is proposed. A vaccine composition for the prevention or treatment of infections caused by viruses of the Pneumoviridae family containing at least one of the indicated attenuated strains of human metapneumovirus in a pharmaceutically acceptable vehicle is proposed.

EFFECT: vaccine is safe and effective in reducing the severity of respiratory disease in relation to vaccination of populations, especially those exposed to hMPV, which are infants, young children and the elderly.
