FIELD: soil remediation and environmental protection.
SUBSTANCE: method is proposed for detoxifying soils contaminated with heavy metals. The method is based on the active immobilization of heavy metals (HM) by sulphide forms of sulphur formed under certain conditions with the participation of the microflora of the aerobically stabilized sewage sludge (SS) introduced into the soil. The method is characterized by the fact that in order to enhance the process of HM immobilization in the soil, the sulphur content in the sediment is adjusted to 2.0% by adding phosphogypsum, the sediment is introduced into the soil and irrigation is carried out until the soil moisture is reached and maintained in the range of 80-90% of the field moisture capacity in within 15 days.
EFFECT: resistance of plants to the toxic effect of HMs when using SS introduced according to the developed method, which can serve the purpose of soil remediation.
