SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the manipulation of mandrel rods in a rolling plant with a rolling mill for rolling seamless pipes. The device contains a holding device with a fixing unit and a pusher configured to move the mandrel rod located in the rolling line in the rolling direction. Moreover, the mandrel rod, starting from the main position, can be pushed into the pipe blank, located in front of the mandrel rod in the rolling direction. The fixing unit is configured to move along the rolling line and temporarily hold the mandrel rod at the gripping point in the area of the rear end of the mandrel rod and carry out a working stroke, starting from the initial position, in the rolling direction, as well as opposite to the rolling direction. The holding device is designed in such a way that in the said main position, the initial position of the locking unit is between both ends of the mandrel rod.
EFFECT: working stroke of the holding device and its fixing unit are shortened.
