FIELD: nuclear energy.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in the manufacture of fuel elements (fuel elements). The method of combining the results of fuel rod monitoring using gamma absorption and fluoroscopic methods consists in controlled movement of the fuel rod perpendicular to the axes of the control channels, recording the counting rate from the outputs of the gamma absorption channels, and recording images from the X-ray monitoring matrix. A constant known distance is established between the axes of the gamma absorption and fluoroscopic control channels, then the coordinates and sizes of the gaps between the fuel pellets and separately the coordinates of the gaps close to the limit are determined using the gamma absorption control channels. The fuel rod is stopped in the movement mechanism and then rotated around the longitudinal axis with registration of the image from the output of the X-ray inspection matrix. Based on the results of gamma absorption control, the total gap in the fuel column is determined. Based on the results of X-ray inspection, the presence of chips in fuel pellets and their size are determined.
EFFECT: increased efficiency of fuel element monitoring.
