FIELD: nuclear reactors.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of control of fuel elements of nuclear reactors, namely to the measurement of the continuity of the fuel column of fuel elements made in the form of pipes and filled with nuclear fuel pellets. In the method for controlling the fuel column background radiation meter, a control sample of the fuel column is preliminarily made with models of fuel pellets made of aluminum and models of gaps between said pellets, which are made of tungsten or lead. The radiometric sensor of the gamma radiation source is replaced by a background sensor, which is installed in its place. The reference sample of the fuel element is moved at a given speed in the longitudinal direction between the mentioned source of gamma radiation with a slit-type collimator, with a rectangular channel on the one hand, and a background sensor with a protective screen on the other, while registering the pulse count rates when passing models of tablets and models gaps, after which the sensitivity of the channel of the control installation for measuring the background of the fuel column of the fuel element is determined by the difference in the pulse count rates of the background sensor.
EFFECT: improving the accuracy of the results of monitoring the fuel column background radiation meter.
