FIELD: oil and gas production.
SUBSTANCE: invention is related in particular, to methods for decontaminating radioactively contaminated equipment with internal cavities that has been taken out of service (scrap metal). A method for decontaminating scrap metal from radioactive fallout involves loading the scrap metal into a permeable container made of a metal rod with cells sized 100×100 mm, placing a container with scrap metal in a tank with a lid, supplying acid inside the specified tank, carrying out decontamination, and unloading acid from the tank, supplying water inside the specified tank for washing scrap metal, unloading water and scrap metal from the tank. The scrap metal is cut into pieces corresponding to the size of the container before inserting it into a permeable container. A loader is used to load the container into a tank equipped with a device for heating and mixing the acid. A steam generator unit is connected to the tank. Sulfuric acid is poured into the tank, the tank lid is sealed, the stirrer is connected and decontamination is carried out in 96% sulfuric acid at a temperature of 80-90°C for 5-6 hours.
EFFECT: invention makes it possible to simplify and increase the efficiency of the process of decontaminating scrap metal from radioactive fallout.
