FIELD: packaging; tobacco products.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to packaging material for tobacco products and packaging for tobacco products. The packaging material is in the form of a sheet for forming a package for a tobacco product, in which the tobacco product is packaged in a hermetically sealed inner containing portion, and contains a paper base layer containing a cellulose-based fibrous material; a water vapour barrier layer superimposed on top of the paper base layer comprising a polymeric material containing no metallic material and having water vapour barrier property; and a heat sealing layer provided as an outer layer on at least one side of the surface of the packaging material and coated with a heat sealing agent for heat sealing the edges of the packaging material to each other. The rate of transmission of water vapour by the layer, which is a barrier to water vapour, ranges from 1 g/m2⋅24 hours up to 100 g/m2⋅24 hours inclusive, and the thickness of the heat-sealing layer is from 0.5 microns to 5 microns inclusive.

EFFECT: providing the ability to hermetically seal tobacco products, as well as use less polymer material and, therefore, be more environmentally friendly.
