FIELD: polymer materials.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a method for modifying a polymer substrate material for use as a stationary phase in an analytical or preparative separation process. Modification of the polymer carrier is carried out in several stages: first, a polymer carrier is selected that is at least partially derived from aromatic hydrocarbon compounds containing at least two vinyl or allylic substituents. Hydroxy groups are then generated on the surface of the polymer material. Subsequently, the material is subjected to oxidative treatment, followed by reductive or hydrolytic treatment. The approach proposed in the invention makes it possible to coat a polymer substrate in such a way that the hydrophilicity of the surface of the polymer substrate can be controlled independently of the oxygen content in the core of the polymer substrate, resulting in mechanically stable and durable particles. The ion exchange substrate based on it is largely chemically inert, and it is possible to configure hydrophilicity and capacity or selectivity and capacity independently of each other.
EFFECT: mechanically stable and durable particles.
