SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to a composition for personal hygiene containing a preservative system, and a method of preserving a composition for personal hygiene. The individual cleansing composition contains a surfactant and a preservative system comprising sodium benzoate in combination with a second active agent selected from benzohydroxamic acid or tricarballylic acid. The mass ratio of the second active substance to sodium benzoate is in the range from 1:8 to 1:2, when the second active substance is benzhydroxamic acid, and the mass ratio of the second active substance to sodium benzoate is in the range from 1:8 to 4:1, when the second active substance is tricarbalylic acid. Also the following is disclosed: a method of preserving an individual cleaning composition containing a surfactant, including pre-mixing sodium benzoate and a second active substance selected from benzhydroxamic acid or tricarballylic acid, and adding the resulting mixture to the composition to be preserved.

EFFECT: invention provides synergistic antimicrobial activity of the preservative system.
