SUBSTANCE: application describes a device (5) and a corresponding method for individually separating valuable documents, in particular banknotes, from a stack, wherein the device proposed in the invention comprises a feeding device (7) configured to feed the currently uppermost valuable document (2) of the stack (3) valuable documents to a tightening device (8), configured to pull this valuable document (2) from the stack (3), a moving device (4, 6), configured to support the stack (3) and move it relative to the feeding device (7), at least one distance sensor (16, 17), configured to register at least one distance (d, d'), on which the currently uppermost valuable document (2) of the stack (3) supported by the moving device (4, 6) is located relative to the feeding device (7), and the generation of at least one corresponding distance sensor signal, and the control device (9), configured to control the movement of the stack (3) relative to the feeding device (7) and/or the position of the feeding device (7) relative to the stack (3), in particular relative to the currently uppermost valuable document (2) of the stack (3), based on at least one distance sensor signal.
EFFECT: invention also relates to a system for processing valuable documents containing such a device (5).
