FIELD: electrical engineering.

SUBSTANCE: invention is intended to evaluate the insulation resistance of power circuits and can be used on AC railway electric rolling stock. Essence: a method for estimating the maximum possible and minimum possible resistance, in which the voltage on the grounding relay coil, the voltage of the diode bridge and the voltage produced by the rectifier-inverter converter of the electric locomotive are measured by galvanically isolated channels. Based on the measured values, the leakage current and the range of the current insulation resistance are calculated. The device for implementing the method contains three galvanically isolated voltage measurement channels, information from which is converted into a digital signal using an analogue-to-digital converter and converted by the processor into leakage current and the range of the current insulation resistance of the DC power group.

EFFECT: reduction in the number of failures of electric locomotives in operation.
