FIELD: electrical engineering.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to electrical engineering, in particular to converter technology, and can be used on electric rolling stock, in particular on an electric locomotive, powered by a single-phase alternating current contact network. The proposed device for increasing the power factor of a rectifier-inverter converter of single-phase alternating current is made in the form of a reactive current unit consisting of a discharge power diode and a thyristor, a second power diode, a capacitor, a fuse and two terminals, in which coolers of two power diodes and a thyristor are forcibly cooled with using a fan motor installed in the same structure of the reactive current unit, the motor of which is connected to the three-phase network of the power supply system of the auxiliary machines of the electric locomotive. The block of reactive currents is made in the form of a separate structure of a rectangular box located next to the rectifier-inverter converter. The proposed device provides shunting of the rectified load current circuit using a block of reactive currents, while simultaneously solving two problems: transferring the reactive energy of the capacitor and the reactive energy accumulated in the inductance of the rectified load current circuit into traction motors and organizing the main separate switching of the thyristors of the rectifier-inverter arms of the converter.

EFFECT: reactive component of the total power of the alternating current of the network supplied to the electric locomotive decreases, and the active component (useful power) of the total power at the point of its consumption by traction motors increases, which increases the power factor of the electric locomotive, the operational characteristics of the electric locomotive are improved by reducing its specific power consumption for traction of trains due to an increase in the power factor, and also the reliability of the reactive current unit is increased due to the introduction of forced cooling of power semiconductor devices in the reactive current unit using a fan motor, which may fail due to overheating during their operation without such cooling.
