METHOD FOR RECYCLING CARBON DIOXIDE CONTAINED IN EXHAUST GASES OF INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINES AND DEVICE FOR IT Russian patent published in 2023 - IPC C01B3/00 B01D53/14

Abstract RU 2807459 C1

FIELD: environmental protection.

SUBSTANCE: invention is related to environmental protection from carbon dioxide contained in gas exhausts of internal combustion engines. The method for recycling carbon dioxide contained in exhaust gases of internal combustion engines includes directing the exhaust gases entering an exhaust pipe through at least one membrane gas separation module. It separates harmless nitrogen and its oxides, as well as sulphur oxides and carbon monoxide. The remaining carbon dioxide and water vapor are fed into the mixer, where carbonated water is formed from them. Carbon dioxide is supplied under pressure in the range of 0.5-10 atm, remaining from the exhaust pressure in injection mode. Next, the carbonated water is passed through at least one reactor containing an iron-based water decomposition catalyst, where the following chemical reaction of polycondensation synthesis of n-alkanes takes place,

nCO2 + [n + b + 1)] H2O + eFe = CnH2n+2 + bH2 + e(FeO) + (1/2) (3n + b + 1 - e) O2, where: n is the number of carbon atoms in a molecule of normal alkanes; b - coefficient (b greater than 0), ensuring the stoichiometry of the reaction at different amounts of decomposing water, e is the stoichiometric coefficient, taking into account the consumption of oxygen for the oxidation of the catalyst, with the formation of hydrogen, oxygen and hydrocarbons, which enter at least one separator. Hydrogen, oxygen and hydrocarbons are separated from water and carbon dioxide, which are sent along with regular fuel into the engine's working cylinder.

EFFECT: invention ensures a reduction in fuel consumption when using internal combustion engines, a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions, an increase in the efficiency of fuel use, and a solution to the problem of recycling carbon dioxide contained in the exhaust gases of internal combustion engines even at room temperature.
