SUBSTANCE: depending on two or more redundant bits, it is detected whether or not the working data of the bit stream contains one or more damaged bits representing at least one bit of working data for which there is a probability exceeding a threshold value that at least one bit of operating data is corrupted. If corrupted bits are not detected in the bit stream payload, the bitstream payload data is decoded without performing error concealment in order to recover part of the signal. If one or more corrupted bits are detected in the bitstream operating data, select a selected error hiding mode from two or more error hiding modes depending on the position of at least one of the one or more corrupted bits in the bitstream operating data and depending on signal characteristics for a portion of the signal. Errors are hidden depending on the selected error hiding mode in order to restore part of the signal.
EFFECT: increased efficiency of encoding.
