SUBSTANCE: processes for the direct production of iron-carbon alloys in the form of cast iron or steel. The method includes producing briquettes from iron oxide material on a mineral binder mixed with charcoal fines obtained by pyrolysis of renewable fast-growing tree plantations or cereals, or agricultural waste of plant origin, preheating and partial reduction of the resulting briquettes, continuous loading of briquettes and simultaneous liquid-phase reduction and melting in a DC electric arc furnace. Briquetting is carried out using the vibrocompression method. Preheating and partial reduction of the resulting briquettes is carried out in a shaft heater using the heat of gases exhausted from the electric arc furnace. In this case, preliminary filtration of the exhaust gases is carried out in a shaft heater with the deposition of large dust particles on a nozzle made of briquettes. The temperature of the exhaust gases used in the shaft heater is 1200°C.

EFFECT: reduction in energy costs when producing iron-carbon alloys while eliminating the negative impact on the environment.
