FIELD: metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: melting of metal charge is performed in presence of iron-carbon briquettes containing, mass-%: ferric oxides 70; carbon-containing agent, 30 and binder, 5 to 10 above 100% in form of concentrate of soda ash and loam which generate reducing gaseous medium at heating. Iron-carbon briquettes are loaded on hearth of furnace in the amount of 2 to 10 mass-% of total mass of metal charge. EFFECT: reduced melting losses; improved quality of metal due to reduced contamination of steel by oxide non-metallic inclusions; enhanced strength and ductility. 4 tbl, 1 ex
