FIELD: organic synthesis.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing hybrid molecules based on (5Z,9Z)-alka-5,9-dienoic acids and (1E,4E)-1,5-bis(4-hydroxy -3-methoxyphenyl)penta-1,4-dien-3-one (C5-curcumin) of formula (1)
which can be used as low-toxic antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral agents in medicine and the pharmaceutical industry. The method involves the interaction of vanillin (5Z,9Z)-alka-5,9-dienoates with acetone in ethanol in the presence of a base being sodium hydroxide. The reaction is carried out at the following molar ratio of ester:acetone:sodium hydroxide = 2:1:2 in a glass reactor at 25–60°C for 6–8 hours.
EFFECT: preparation of compounds of formula (1) under mild conditions with high yield using inexpensive and available sodium hydroxide.
