FIELD: sorting diamonds.
SUBSTANCE: essence of the invention lies in the fact that a sample of material, including diamonds, is transported through a transport system containing a conveyor belt; emitting x-rays via an x-ray source onto a sample of the material; measuring the intensity of the emitted X-ray radiation from the material sample by means of an X-ray luminescence (XRL) detector placed around the conveyor belt; measuring the intensity of X-ray transmission through the sample material by means of an X-ray transmission (XRT) detector located under the conveyor belt; and receiving, through the processor, measurements of emitted radiation intensity and transmitted radiation intensity from the XRL detector and the XRT detector, respectively; processed by a processor to measure the intensity of the emitted radiation and the intensity of the transmitted radiation to determine the equivalent absorption coefficient; and identifying the material sample or portion of the material sample as diamond based on a comparison of the equivalent absorption coefficient with the previously stored absorption coefficient of the reference sample.
EFFECT: increasing the reliability of detection of diamond particles.
