FIELD: image encoding/decoding technologies.

SUBSTANCE: group of inventions is related to equipment for image encoding/decoding using filtering. A method for decoding images is proposed, carried out by means of image decoding equipment containing a decoding module that decodes an image from a bit stream. The method comprises retrieving a target deblocking filter boundary in the reconstructed frame and determining a maximum deblocking filter length for the target boundary. A deblocking filter is applied to the target boundary based on the maximum length. Based on the target boundary being a vertical boundary, the maximum length is determined based on the width of at least one of the first block adjacent to the left side of the target boundary or the second block adjacent to the right side of the target boundary.

EFFECT: increase of efficiency of coding/decoding images.
