FIELD: selective operations in a wellbore.
SUBSTANCE: downhole tool contains a bottom hole assembly (BHA), a casing and one or more shear elements. The casing is located around and in close proximity to the downhole end of the BHA. The casing is configured to slide relative to the BHA and to be detached from and slide along the BHA when shearing one or more said shear elements when the casing engages with a recess element made in the Y-block to provide access to the main or side wellbore. The Y-shaped block contains the deflector housing and ramp. The housing has a first end and a second opposite end, a single first channel extending into the housing from the first end, second and third separate channels extending into the housing and branching from the single first channel. The deflector ramp is configured to push the downhole tool towards the third separate channel. The body of the Y-block is a one-piece unit, and these channels are located inside this one-piece unit. The well system contains a main wellbore and a side wellbore, a multilateral connection located in close proximity to the intersection of the main wellbore and the lateral wellbore. A method for forming a wellbore system includes placing a multi-junction connection in close proximity to the intersection of a main wellbore and a lateral wellbore, selectively accessing the main wellbore or lateral wellbore through a y-shaped block to hydraulically fracture the main wellbore or lateral wellbore.
EFFECT: increased efficiency of selective access to the main and lateral wellbores.
