SUBSTANCE: invention can be used to obtain directly reduced metal material. At stage (a) the metal material to be restored is loaded into the furnace space, at stage (b) the existing atmosphere is pumped out from the furnace space to create a vacuum inside, at stage (c) of the main heating, heat and hydrogen gas are supplied to the furnace for heating with heated gas hydrogen-loaded metal material to a temperature high enough to reduce the metal oxides present in the metal material, which in turn results in the formation of water vapor. At stage (d), the resulting water vapor is condensed and collected in a condenser under the loaded metal material. Stages (c) and (d) are performed at least until an excess pressure of a hydrogen atmosphere is reached within the furnace space, and hydrogen gas is not pumped out of the furnace space until said excess pressure is reached.
EFFECT: invention makes it possible to control the process of direct reduction of metal ore in a controlled hydrogen atmosphere to produce directly reduced sponge iron.
