SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of sterilizing absorbable suture material. The method involves treating absorbable suture material in a package with ionizing radiation. Packages measuring 14×7×7 cm, 10 pieces each with catgut suture threads, six layers of packaging, with each layer containing 200 pieces of catgut suture threads are placed in cardboard transport containers. Using a transportation system in the form of a conveyor belt, cardboard transport containers are delivered and placed on a carousel equipped with an automated system for switching to rotational movement around its own vertical axis. With a number of revolutions from 6 to 13 in the interval from 4 to 14 minutes, they are irradiated with accelerated electrons with an energy from 3 MeV to 7 MeV and a beam current density from 0.05 to 0.16μA/cm2, while ensuring that the temperature value in the environment of packages with catgut suture threads is maintained constant throughout the entire sterilization process. The distance between the exit of the electron beam and the center of the cardboard transport container is 145 cm, the area of the uniform unfolded field of the accelerated electron beam is 20×70 cm. Next, the transportation system removes the cardboard transport container from the irradiation zone.

EFFECT: development of a technologically effective and high-performance method of sterilizing absorbable suture material, in particular catgut, with accelerated electrons on an electron accelerator with energy control 3÷7 MeV and an average electron beam power of about 5 kW.
