FIELD: mechanical stress measurements.

SUBSTANCE: in the area under study the velocities or times of propagation of shear and head waves are measured, the values of the anisotropy parameters of shear and head waves are calculated, and then the difference in the principal mechanical stresses is calculated. Shear and head wave sensors are selected in such a way that in both cases the volume of sounded material coincides as much as possible, which makes it possible to reduce the error in determining stresses.

EFFECT: providing the ability to determine the difference in principal mechanical stresses in an orthotropic material without the need to use standards and carry out measurements in an unloaded object, as well as ensuring an increase in the accuracy of stress determination.
