SUBSTANCE: computing device for rendering digital content includes a processing device and a storage device storing instructions executable by the processing device to execute, in a first local process, an application that outputs digital content for rendering and display. In this case, the application contains conditional logic to determine whether to render an object remotely or locally, based on a network latency threshold. During application execution, object information regarding an object to be rendered by a second local or remote process is provided, a rendering of the object is received, the rendering of the object is output to display the object, an action performed on the object is accepted, updated object information is provided, an updated rendering of the object is receive, and the updated rendering of the object is output to display the object.

EFFECT: increase of efficiency of hybrid rendering, which allows generating both remotely rendered content and locally rendered content for composition into a locally displayed image, depending on the amount of network latency.
