SUBSTANCE: invention relates to means of manipulating thumbnails in a window manager. The method comprises displaying a source window, the source window containing source window content which is capable of being modified; displaying a destination window, wherein at least a portion of the destination window contains a thumbnail, the thumbnail containing content thumbnail content corresponding to at least a portion of the source window content; modifying the thumbnail content when the source window content changes; obtaining a first parameter for defining at least a portion of the source window, wherein said modification comprises determining at least a portion of the source window to draw into the thumbnail based on said first parameter; obtaining a second parameter for defining at least a portion of the destination window, wherein said modification further comprises determining at least a portion of the destination window to render the thumbnail based on said second parameter. Modification of the source window is displayed in the thumbnail.
