FIELD: processing of valuable documents.

SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a method and device for further processing and, if necessary, packaging of valuable documents, in particular banknotes. Labels are produced for packs containing a machine-readable identifier associated with a visible serial number of the corresponding pack. Before or after labelling the corresponding package, its image is recorded using a control device to determine the actual serial number of the package and compare it with the serial number associated with the corresponding machine-readable identifier. Depending on whether the actual visible serial number of the package matches or does not match the visible serial number associated with its machine-readable identifier, the corresponding package is or is not subjected to further processing, for example packaging by means of a packaging device.

EFFECT: eliminating the possibility of mixing up a pack, which could lead to a change in the order of packs in the transport device, followed by applying a label to the wrong packs, resulting in incorrectly labelled packs in the packaging unit.
