FIELD: reinforced aerogel compositions.

SUBSTANCE: proposed composition includes a silica airgel framework reinforced with an open-cell macroporous framework, and includes one or more fire-rated additives containing an endothermic material, wherein the silica airgel framework contains at least one hydrophobically bonded silicon atom , and the additive corresponding to the fire safety class is characterized by the temperature of the onset of thermal decomposition, which is within 50° C on the temperature at which the airgel framework begins to decompose.

EFFECT: proposed reinforced aerogel compositions are durable and easy to handle, demonstrate favorable performance characteristics in aqueous environments, and have favourable insulating and fire-resistant properties.
