FIELD: food industry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to agglomerated powdered beverage ingredients used in beverage preparation devices, in particular to agglomerated dry beverages. An agglomerated powdered beverage ingredient is provided, wherein the powdered beverage ingredient comprises a fat-containing powder selected from chocolate powder, milk powder or a non-dairy whitener powder, having a median particle size (D50) of 150 to 1,000 μm and a density of 250 to 950 g/L, and in which the percentage of particles with the largest size less than 90 μm is from 2% to 20%. The following is proposed: a method of producing the said agglomerated powdered beverage ingredient comprising the following steps: a) fluidizing a layer of powdered beverage ingredient by introducing gas; b) spraying droplets of liquid onto a fluidized bed of the powdered beverage ingredient; c) drying the fluidized bed of the powdered beverage ingredient; d) cooling the fluidized bed of the powdered beverage ingredient to obtain an agglomerated powdered beverage ingredient; and heating the gas used to a temperature of 50°C to 70°C during steps b) and/or c) and cooling the same to a temperature of 5°C to 25°C during step d), and spraying liquid droplets under a pressure of 1 to 3 bar. The following is provided: a beverage ingredient container with the said agglomerated powdered beverage ingredient to be inserted into a beverage preparation device, wherein the agglomerated powdered beverage ingredient occupies from 45% to 95% of the total volume of the beverage ingredient container. Also the following is provided: a method of producing a beverage, comprising the following: a) providing the said container for a beverage ingredient; b) supplying fluid through the container at a pressure of less than 10 bar; and c) dissolving and/or suspending at least a portion of the agglomerated powdered beverage ingredient in the fluid such that the fluid exiting the container contains at least a portion of the agglomerated powdered beverage ingredient dissolved and/or suspended therein, with producing the said beverage, and wherein the beverage ingredient container is inserted into the beverage preparation device before step b).

EFFECT: invention is aimed at improving the solubility of the agglomerated powdered beverage ingredient and its shelf life.
