FIELD: oil and gas industry.
SUBSTANCE: maintenance and operation of in-field pipelines of oil and gas producing companies aimed at periodic quantitative diagnostics of deposits in them. A method for determining the volume of deposits in a horizontal pipeline section involves installing two pressure sensors at the beginning and end of the pipeline section and pumping liquid into the pipeline in a turbulent mode at a constant flow rate. A reference liquid is pumped up with properties that are unchanged during the movement of the liquid between two pressure sensors, with a volume not less than the volume of the pipeline section between the pressure sensors that does not have deposits. Based on the properties of the injected liquid, using the Darcy-Weisbach formula, a graph is drawn up of the dependence of the pressure difference at the beginning and at the end of the pipeline section on the internal diameter of the pipeline for a given value of liquid flow; after stabilizing the pressure difference at the beginning and at the end of the section, pressure sensor readings are taken at a given liquid flow rate, using the dependence graph, the actual internal diameter of the pipeline section with deposits is determined. The volume of deposits is determined using a calculation formula based on the known value of the diameter of the flow section of the pipeline section.
EFFECT: increasing the accuracy of measurements of the volume of deposits in the pipeline.
