FIELD: metallurgy of non-ferrous metals.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates in particular to the removal of chlorine and fluorine from Waelz oxide, and can be used in the pyrometallurgical processing of zinc-containing materials with a high halide content. Removal of chlorine and fluorine from Waelz-oxide zinc-containing electric arc furnace dusts involves granulation and calcination in a tube furnace. During granulation and subsequent drying, granules with a size of 2-4 mm and a moisture content of 1-3% are obtained.
EFFECT: method provides an increase in the degree of distillation of chlorine more than 99.7%, fluorine more than 95% when processing Waelz oxide with a chlorine content of more than 6.0%, fluorine more than 0.25%, as well as an increase in the productivity of the calcination furnace.
