METHOD FOR SETTING UP ULTRASONIC FLAW DETECTOR WHEN INSPECTING CERAMIC PRODUCTS Russian patent published in 2024 - IPC G01N29/30

Abstract RU 2813144 C1

FIELD: non-destructive testing.

SUBSTANCE: invention can be used to adjust sensitivity and scan of an ultrasonic flaw detector before carrying out ultrasonic flaw detection of products made of ceramic materials. The method of tuning an ultrasonic flaw detector when inspecting ceramic products is that the flaw detector transducer emits ultrasonic signals into a tuning sample and receives ultrasonic signals from a known reflector in it, scans the tuning sample, evaluates the amplitude of the ultrasonic signal received from the known reflector, according to which the gain of the flaw detector is adjusted. The tuning sample is made from a fragment of the tested product with two polished edges at an angle from 30 to 55 degrees to the normal of the working surface, in which reflectors are made perpendicular to the angle of input of the ultrasonic wave in the form of flat-bottomed drillings with a diameter of 1 to 2 mm, while sensitivity is adjusted at the frequency radiation of the ultrasonic wave of the piezoelectric transducer in the range from 3.5 to 10.0 MHz, and the scan adjustment of the ultrasonic flaw detector is carried out at the dihedral angles formed by the working and bottom surfaces and the edges of the adjustment sample ground at an angle.

EFFECT: improved accuracy of setting up an ultrasonic flaw detector and, as a consequence, improved accuracy of detecting defects in ogive-shaped products made of ceramic materials.
