FIELD: nondestructive testing of materials.
SUBSTANCE: method comprises emitting repeatedly pulse ultrasonic oscillations to the article to be tested by means of one or several ultrasonic converters, receiving the oscillations by means of additional (reference) converter mounted on the back side of the article, and indicating the fact of their receiving. In a given time, the same converter emits the ultrasonic oscillation to the article whose amplitude is higher than that of the threshold level of the defectoscope in the same direction as that of receiving. The acoustical unit of the defectoscope receives the oscillations, and then they are amplified and classified. The operation conditions are determined at a scanning rate of Vc.max ≤ H [tg(α0 + φp) - tg(α0 - φp)]/kmin T, where H is the thickness (height) of the article to be tested, α0 and φp the emitting angle and half angle of opening of the direction diagram of the defectoscope converter, T is the time period between the sounding pulses of the defectoscope, Kmin is the minimum number of echo-pulses. The operation condition can be judged by the actuating the defectoscope indicators and checking device.
EFFECT: enhanced reliability and efficiency and expanded functional capabilities.
