SUBSTANCE: invention can be used to measure the transparency of the atmosphere or artificially created aerosols. A method for measuring the attenuation index of optical radiation by an aerosol medium, in contrast to the known method, involves the use of matrix photodetector devices, the aperture planes of which lie in the same plane, perpendicular to the plane formed by the installation line of the measuring system and the radiation axis of the source of directed optical radiation. In this case, images of the radiation source of directed optical radiation scattered by the aerosol layer are formed by matrix photodetector devices. The photosensitive elements of the matrices of matrix photodetectors are determined from the obtained images of the radiation source of directed optical radiation scattered by the aerosol layer, the locations of which characterize that the radiation axis of the source of directed optical radiation is the bisector of the vertex angle at a selected point of the aerosol layer formed by lines drawn from the centres of the input apertures of the matrix photodetectors to the selected point of the aerosol layer. The indicator of attenuation of optical radiation by the aerosol layer is determined based on the values of the output signals of the selected photosensitive elements of the matrices of matrix photodetector devices, the geometric parameters of their location and the geometric parameters of the measuring system relative to the selected point of the aerosol layer.

EFFECT: increasing the efficiency of measuring the attenuation rate of optical radiation by an aerosol medium.
