FIELD: acoustics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to remote methods for detecting sound-scattering layers in seas and oceans based on strip survey data of the bottom topography with an interferometric side-scan sonar and can be used in studies of the acoustic characteristics of the water column of the world's oceans during geophysical surveys. A method for detecting sound-scattering layers in seas and oceans involves probing acoustic scatterers in the water column with a broadband acoustic pulse signal, receiving signals reflected from the sound-scattering layers to the antennas of an interferometric side-scan sonar. Next, the time distribution of the phase difference in the antennas of the interferometric side-scan sonar is compared with the time distribution model of the phase difference for different depths, based on the maximum correlation function of the time distribution of the phase difference in the antennas of the interferometric side-scan sonar and the time distribution model of the phase difference, the moments of appearance of sound-scattering layers are determined and their depth is calculated.
EFFECT: increasing the area of the studied air defense systems, which makes it possible to reduce the measurement time and energy consumption.
