FIELD: railway transport.

SUBSTANCE: method of using a lower step of a footboard of a railway vehicle is that a vehicle footboard is used, comprising a main unit of steps configured to extend parallel to the floor of the vehicle, and a lower step mechanically connected to the main unit with two degrees of freedom and driven by a common footboard drive through a mechanical transmission. Initially, the main unit of steps is extended and fixed. Then lower step is extended so that its plane is parallel to planes of steps of the main unit. When retraction the lower step, the lower retractable step is first lifted and then the main unit is retracted. After complete lifting of the lower retractable step and retraction of the main unit, the main unit and the lower retractable step are mechanically locked against spontaneous extension.

EFFECT: higher reliability of operation of footboards in areas with snow-covered, uneven and damaged lower landing platforms.
