FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a method of polymerising a fluoromonomer to a fluoropolymer and/or fluoroelastomer in an aqueous dispersion medium in the presence of a surfactant. Surfactant is a non-fluorinated, hydrocarbon-containing surfactant of the sulphonate type, represented by the formula: R1-[ArnXn-1]-(SO3-M+)m, where R is an alkyl group with 2–20 carbon atoms, 1 is the number of alkyl groups in range from 1 to 2, Ar is an aryl group, n is from 1 to 2, and X is a bridge bond between Ar aryl groups, where the bridge bond is CH2 or a compound using an ether or amine function, or N(C2H5)3, or a carbonyl group, M+ is selected from hydrogen, an alkali metal, NH4+ or combinations thereof, m is integer from 1 to 2. This method eliminates surfactant passivation.

EFFECT: presented method does not include use of fluorinated surfactants, does not include destructive agents for passivation of surfactants, and also enables to obtain fluoropolymers and fluoroelastomers with molecular weight from low to high and optimum particle size.
