SUBSTANCE: low molecular weight micropowder of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), as well as a method for its production. Melt viscosity of low molecular weight polytetrafluoroethylene micropowder is from 1000001 to 999999999 Pa⋅s at a temperature of 380°C and load of 21.6 kg. The method for producing low molecular weight polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) micropowder consists of the following steps: (a) polymerization of tetrafluoroethylene (TFE); (b) coagulating the PTFE particles to increase the particle size; (c) washing the PTFE particles to remove impurities; and (d) drying the wet PTFE micropowder to remove moisture and volatiles.

EFFECT: present invention relates to a process for the production of low molecular weight PTFE micropowder by direct polymerization technology and eliminates the limitation of melt viscosity in comparison with the background art, it does not require an irradiation or thermal decomposition step, and it also complies with regulations on the limitation of the content of perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) in substances.
