FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metallurgy, particularly to desulphurisation of molten metal. Potential difference between molten slag and molten metal is fed by means of electrodes using a DC power supply. Supplied current density is determined in accordance with the equilibrium concentration of sulphur before applying the potential difference so that the equilibrium concentration of sulphur when applying the potential difference becomes equal to or below the specified concentration of sulphur.
EFFECT: invention enables to carry out the process of desulphurisation of molten metal in a short time by increasing the desulphurisation rate without passing excess current by transferring sulphur from the molten metal to the liquid slag by an electrochemical method.
