FIELD: measurement.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used for non-destructive acoustic control of mechanical strength of a ceramic support-rod insulator. Essence of invention consists in the fact that excitation of natural oscillations of insulator, calculation and recording their energy spectrum in the controlled frequency band and checking compliance of the calculated energy spectrum with the specified diagnostic criteria, characterized by that the insulator is considered to be serviceable if the energy spectrum of its natural oscillations satisfies the first diagnostic criterion, which consists in the fact that the maximum value of the energy spectrum in each of frequency ranges 1.0–1.3 kHz and 9.7–10.0 kHz does not exceed 10% of the global maximum of the energy spectrum of natural oscillations of the insulator in the controlled frequency band.
EFFECT: reduced probability of error when establishing validity of insulator for further operation, as well as possibility of automation of diagnostic control stage.
