FIELD: metallurgy.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to continuous casting of steel. Powdery slag-forming mixture for the crystallizer during continuous casting of stainless steel with a sorbitol structure has the following chemical composition, wt.%: 23–30 CaO, 27–34 SiO₂, 6.5–9.0 Al₂O₃, 0.5–2 Fe₂O₃, 1–3 MgO, 4.5–8.0 Na₂O, 4.0–6 F^-, 0.18–1.6 Li₂O, 0.48–2 B₂O₃, 0.35–1.6 BaO, 2.8–5.5 MnO and 3–6 C_tot, the rest is unavoidable impurities. Raw material for the mixture contains glass powder, cement clinker, sodium carbonate, fluorite, wollastonite, lithium carbonate, sodium fluoride, weakly burnt magnesium oxide powder, bentonite, cryolite, bauxite, borax, barium carbonate, manganese carbonate, a dispersant, carbon black and a binder, wherein the components can be taken in the form of pre-melted, cooled and ground material. Composition of the mixture reduces the effect of low shrinkage rate of stainless steel with a sorbitol structure on the surface quality of the workpiece due to reduction of cracks caused by content of sulfur and phosphorus, prevention of cooling of molten steel surface and assimilation of inclusions on it and billet lubrication.

EFFECT: higher workpiece surface quality.
