FIELD: chemistry; metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: electrolytic refining of crude tellurium involves dissolution of crude tellurium immersed in a solution of 100 g/dm3 caustic soda at a temperature of 90-99 °C at a ratio of L:T = 1.5-3, in the cathode chamber with an electric current with a density of 800-1200 A/m2 for 2-5 hours for 94% extraction of tellurium into the solution, followed by filtration of the telluride solution and its treatment with compressed air in an aerator to obtain technical tellurium of grade T-1.
EFFECT: ability to increase recovery of tellurium to 94%, to prevent contamination of the product with aluminium, and also to ensure purification of crude tellurium from heavy non-ferrous metals.
