RIB OSTEOSYNTHESIS METHOD FOR COSTAL NONUNION Russian patent published in 2024 - IPC A61B17/58

Abstract RU 2817975 C1

FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to medicine, namely to thoracic surgery, and can be used for osteosynthesis of ribs in costal nonunion. After access to the rib fracture line and costal nonunion, surrounding tissues are mobilized. Edges of the rib fragments and costal nonunion, as well as the surrounding changed tissues are resected. Muscular flap of the greater pectoral muscle is mobilized so that the blood supply source is a thoracoacromial artery pectoral branch and the volume of muscular tissue corresponds to the size of the defect of the chest wall between costal fragments. Muscle flap of the greater pectoral muscle is moved to the defect area. Muscle flap is fixed to the thoracic fascia. Bone metal plate is placed on the surface of the rib fragments and the muscle flap of the greater pectoral muscle. Extra-bone metal plate is fixed with locking screws to the rib fragments. Wound is drained with a perforated tube and closed in layers.

EFFECT: method provides reliable fixation of rib fragments after resection of costal nonunion, elimination of residual cavity between rib fragments, tight adhesion of the metal plate to the proper tissues of the chest wall due to maintaining a good blood supply to the flap of the greater pectoral muscle.
