FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to means of suppressing temporal noise on a sequence of image signals obtained using thermal imaging optoelectronic systems. Moving objects on the observed scene are detected using correlation of pixels on successive frames, which enables to isolate and suppress the noise component of the image signal. First two received frames f0 and f1 are used to set initial parameters, a function of brightness of pixels of the (k-2)-th frame, a brightness function of pixels of the (k-1)-th frame, the value of the previous threshold thresholdk-1=0. For each pixel of the received frame fk determining the degree of correlation

where N is the size of the square neighbourhood of the pixel (x, y), within which the correlation coefficient is calculated. Image is filtered.

EFFECT: suppression of temporary noise on infrared images to increase probability of detection and recognition of small-size objects.
