SUBSTANCE: invention relates to rail cutting or rail re-profiling. Movable ultra-high pressure liquid jet system for performing a rail cutting operation or a rail reprofiling operation comprises a movable frame configured to maintain mechanical contact with the rail, nozzle system containing liquid-jet processing head, and an ultra-high pressure liquid pump in fluid communication with said nozzle system liquid-jet treatment head. Liquid-jet processing head is attached to the frame and is configured to maintain distance from the rail and provide a jet of liquid which contacts the rail. Ultra-high pressure fluid pump is configured to generate a fluid jet pressure of at least 30,000 pounds per square inch.
