FIELD: measurement.
SUBSTANCE: use for determination of electron work function. Essence of the invention consists in the fact that a device for determining the work function of an electron includes a cell located in a vacuum chamber for measuring a contact potential difference, comprising a collector, for which there used is an analysed sample fixed on a holder and installed in an appropriate position, an anode with a collimating hole and a thermal cathode with a screen. In the vacuum chamber there is at least one evaporator tank for the sprayed substance, which is equipped with a heater and is closed by an external casing made of refractory metal with an aperture in the side wall. Axis of the aperture, which is covered if necessary by a shutter, passes through a collimating channel in the screen and crosses the end face of the holder at a certain angle relative to the normal to its surface.
EFFECT: providing the possibility of developing a device for determining the work function of an electron, having expanded functional capabilities, providing for obtaining dependences of work function on thickness of deposited foreign film, while eliminating distortion of electric field, positioning error and similarity of samples.
