SUBSTANCE: invention relates to computer engineering for processing bit streams of audio data. Technical result is achieved by determining, using one or more processors, a combination of one or more bit rates for downmix channels; determining, using one or more processors, a metadata quantization level from a set of metadata quantization levels; quantizing and encoding, using one or more processors, spatial metadata using a metadata quantization layer; generating, using one or more processors and a combination of one or more bit rates, a downmix bit stream for one or more downmix channels; combining, using one or more processors, a downmix bit stream, quantized and encoded spatial metadata and a set of quantization levels into an IVAS bit stream.
EFFECT: reducing spatial metadata, mono codec overhead and minimizing bit loss to zero.
