FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to chemical industry, to synthesis of macrocyclic structures, namely to a method of producing cucurbit[5-8]urils. Disclosed method involves condensation of glycoluril in an acidic medium. Preparation is carried out in the presence of mineral acids at temperature of 95 °C for 24 hours, oxymethylated glycoluryl (1,3,5,7-tetrakis(hydroxymethyl)glycoluryl) is used as a source of formaldehyde, which is reacted together with glycoluril in an equimolar ratio of 1:1.
EFFECT: synthesis of cucurbit[5-8]urils under conditions where there is no unbound formaldehyde in the reaction mixture, high total output of the desired products and high selectivity with respect to cucurbit[5-8]urils.
