FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to chemical industry, in particular to methods of producing sorbents for extracting lithium from brines, wastes from chemical and mining industries, as well as sea water. Method includes obtaining compound LiCl⋅2Al(OH)3⋅H2O during reaction of aluminium-containing and lithium-containing reagents in presence of water and its subsequent treatment with water with removal of part of lithium from obtained compound. Aluminium-containing reagent used is an alumina hydrate TCA product. Lithium-containing reagent used is lithium chloride monohydrate or lithium chloride monohydrate with addition of 10 wt.% lithium hydroxide. TCA product or a mixture of the TCA product and lithium salts is subjected to grinding to values of 2–13 mcm using any of the known methods. Simultaneously with mixing of powders, granulation is performed in a high-speed turbo-mixer, wherein moisture content of granules after mixing of TCA product and aqueous solution of lithium salts or mixing of TCA product and lithium salts with water at granulation stage makes 13–20 wt.%, while their size makes 0.4–1.6 mm. Produced granules are held in saturated water vapours at temperature not higher than 50 °C for 8 hours. Thermal treatment of granules before washing is carried out in 2 stages. At the first stage, granules are dried at 50–80 °C for 8 hours, at the second stage, heat treatment is carried out at a temperature of not higher than 160 °C for 5–10 hours.
EFFECT: invention enables simultaneous production of a sorbent and its granulation, which considerably simplifies the technology of producing the sorbent.
